I don’t know if there are any other son’s-in-law that would admit to being schooled by their mother’s-in-law, but it happened to me.

You might have noticed, I like Stoicism. But if you know nothing about me or the philosophy, then it can seem kind of morbid. I know this, because my mother-in-law asked my wife if I was depressed.

She has seen the quotes on Facebook and thought something was wrong.

So like most of you would do, I texted her to say I was ok and that it was all about philosophy and business. Firstly, I told her about the practical nature of the Stoic Philosophy and how it can be a nice reminder to stay in the moment and keep things in perspective.

Next, I told her that I am interested in connecting with other people that like the Philosophy. Because people in my industry that have an interest in the Stoic Philosophy are likely practical people, and that it is practical people we want to hire. So the more I share and engage with people that like the things I like, the best chance I will have to find amazing people to hire.

YOU KNOW WHAT SHE SAID…….. “Bugger that, just share your opinion, not some dead persons”.

DAMN mummy-in-law, that hits hard.

So this was about 6 months ago that she said that.

Want to know my best performing blog in the last 6 months. The one that has had organic comments on my website. The one that I wrote about my personal experience with something. The one that deviated from the normal philosophical posts.

It was in that moment that I remembered her advice. It is the reason for this post and it is the reason I will begin to share more about my perspective on the lessons.

Because, it seems, people want to read about what is happening for people in the now. Not as much about what happened in the past. Don’t get me wrong, the past has its place, it’s filled with valuable lessons. But I think, from now, you are going to get a bit more from right now.

Thanks mummy-in-law, love you.
