I am obsessed with business strategy, but it has to be practical and be something you can act on. You don’t need a bunch of complex jargon or a heavy manual to make it work. It’s all about being smart, even when things are up in the air.
Sun Tzu, the ancient strategist, once said, “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” That’s a fancy way of saying you need a solid game plan and the right moves to win.
Here’s what often happens: You’ve got a bunch of talented people, maybe starting a new business or a leader building a fresh team. Everyone’s pumped and ready to go. But soon enough, we all fall back into our old habits, doing things the way we’ve always done.
But guess what? A little effort at the beginning can make a world of difference. Whether you’re a start-up squad or a seasoned team, getting these three things right can set you up for success:
- Key Activities: What are the main things you need to do to make magic happen?
- Tactics: These are your moves, the smart actions you take to get things rolling.
- Objectives: What’s the goal? Where do you want to be when the dust settles?
Now, remember what Sun Tzu said about tactics needing a strategy? Well, he’s right. If you’re all about the action but don’t have a clear strategy, you’re just making noise.
So, if you’re after a strategy that’s practical and effective, why not check out the success framework? It’s about cutting through the clutter and getting straight to what works.
Remember, strategy doesn’t have to be a headache. Keep it straightforward, and you’re halfway to victory.
Rock and Roll,
Rob
P.S. What’s the one thing you don’t do, that would cause the most positive change in your life?
